What is Conceptual Art?

In the exiguous world of art, and the art departments of American universities, there is a thinking that today's art should be devoid of meaning, feeling, and craftsmanship. Newly minted MFA's are supposed to knock 'em dead, get that money and fame, or a professorship--to hell with art. These darlings are into "conceptual art," nothing wrong with that, but isn't all art conceptual? Once an artist has an idea--it is a concept. It is the same thing with abstract art: all art is abstract. Nature is nature. An artist only sees this as going hand-and-hand with an evolutionary process, but in a different perspective. They can  render it  figuratively, abstractly, or conceptually. Artists are weird, to say the least. I should know.(more entries, keep on scrolling).

NYC The Arch Enemy

New York City has always intrigued me. When I was a teenager, all my friends wanted to move there. My deceased brother moved there to be a poet and songwriter. He got stabbed with an ice pick, survived, and got out--defeated. Another brother and his singing group won first prize at the Apollo. It did not help much.

I never had a great desire to go there. Bright lights never appealed to me. I always looked at Miss. Liberty as a fraud, something that would take one's life. Look at the state of art and literature there. The absence of art and culture is enormous.

If I had a son or dauther who wanted to be an artist, I would not send them to New York City; I'd send them to Russia, England, France, or Germany where they take art seriously.
